How to Make 100% Fruit Smoothie thumbnail
You can make your own 100 percent fruit smoothie.

Smoothies are traditionally made using a dairy product and fruit that are blended to a shake-like substance and served cold. Newer versions use soy milk, almond milk and others in place of the dairy products. However, there aren't too many recipes for 100 percent fruit smoothies. They aren't hard to make once you figure out the purpose of milk in the smoothie. It is used to "lubricate" the fruit so that it blends well. The dairy product also thins out the smoothie as needed. You can replace the dairy with a fruit juice of your choice that can do the same job. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a lubricant. Orange, pineapple, apple and grape juices are available at any grocery store and work well as lubricants. The citrus juices tend to have a slightly denser consistency than apple juice, especially if they include pulp.

    • 2

Choose the fruit that would go well with the lubricant. Apple juice is the most accommodating. It can go with any flavor from banana to watermelon. Grape juice is probably the least accommodating of the juices.

    • 3

Slice the fruit into 1-inch chunks or smaller . There are no real rules on how much to use. The amount of each fruit will affect the flavor, so place more strawberries than bananas in your making a strawberry banana smoothie, for example. The 1-inch pieces will simply make it easier for you blender to mix the fruit.

    • 4

Place the fruit into the blender and then pour in the juice. Blend the mix on the blend setting, adding more juice to loosen the mixture as needed.

    • 5

Add lubricant to thin out the mixture once your mix is blended if you wish. If you get it too thin, add more fruit and blend the mixture again.

    • 6

Serve cold and refrigerate the leftovers. Never leave the smoothie out, as it will go bad quickly. Refrigerate the mix until it is needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make the smoothies is small batches if necessary, just to test the flavors.

  • Add a citrus fruit or juice to every mixture to help preserve the appearance of the smoothie --- this will help prevent browning.

  • The 100 percent fruit smoothie will have a somewhat different texture than the ones using the dairy lubricant.
