Spit up, juice, milk, other unnamed substances can turn car seats into something revolting. It is easy to remove the lining of the seat and wash it, but most car seat manufacturers do not advise machine washing the straps because it could compromise the integrity of the fibers. Instead of coping with yucky, messy straps, consider ordering new straps ($12-$30) to give new life to a car seat.

  • Car seat manual (optional)

  1. Step 1

    First, locate the model name and number on the bottom or side of the car seat. Take note of this information for further reference.

  2. Step 2

    Contact via Phone or mail: Next, if you have a manual for your car seat, look in the table of contents to direct you to information on ordering replacement parts for your seat. There may be an order form and an address to send it too. If you prefer to order over the phone instead, locate a toll free number to call. Be sure to have the your car seat information you collected with you in Step 1 as well as your credit card when you make the phone call. If you can not easily locate the car seat's manual, no need to worry. You may even be able to find a toll free number on the car seat itself.

  3. Step 3

    Internet: If you were unable to contact the company through the means described in Step 2, try ordering the straps online. A list of popular car seat web sites can be found at the end of this article. Navigate your way to the replacement parts/support/customer service section of the web site. Input you car seat's model information to locate the right part. Proceed to checkout.

  4. Step 4

    When your new straps arrive, be sure to follow the instructions for securely replacing the straps.
