Insomnia is a consistent difficulty or inability to fall or stay asleep despite having ample opportunity. Basically, you can't sleep even when you have the time and the best surroundings for sleep. This article is meant to help you find a cure for insomnia.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step to finding a cure for insomnia is to evaluate your needs. Some people have a terrible time sleeping but also do not want to deal with the possible side effects of medication. Try to spend a little time deciding what you are and are not willing to do in order to cure your insomnia.

  2. Step 2

Try to limit anything that can cause your sleep to be disturbed. For example, many doctors encourage their patients to remove their television sets from their bedrooms. It's also a good idea not to exercise, shower, or do any stressful activities before going to bed.

  3. Step 3

Try to do something relaxing directly before sleeping. This will vary from person to person. I find curling up with a good book helpful. Once in bed, try to deepen your relaxed state through meditation or breathing techniques.

  4. Step 4

If the above steps aren't working, it may be time to take more drastic measures. One natural cure for insomnia is melatonin. This isn't for everyone but it can be very helpful. Melatonin will help you fall asleep without aggravating your body's natural sleep cycle.

  5. Step 5

If all of the above techniques fail to cure your insomnia, then it may be time to visit a doctor. You can go to a medical doctor to receive a prescription for a stronger sleep aid, or you can ask for a recommendation for a sleep therapy. Sleep therapies range from treating your bed as only a resource for sleep to staying awake until your body is naturally ready to fall asleep.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try not to get frustrated, it may take a combination of one or more of the above steps to cure your insomnia.
