Some people may be eligible for tax deductions for certain travel expenses related to medical treatment. Some tax-deductible expenses include airfare, ambulance services, bus or medical van, gas and oil, milage, meals while traveling, transportation to medical-related conferences, and lodging. Here's how to find out if you too qualify for these deductions.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to www.irs.gov and download a copy of form Publication 502, Medical and Dental Expenses, to see exactly which medical travel expenses are covered.

  2. Step 2

Collect and save all of your receipts for all of your medical travel expenses that are covered in the tax deductions you learned about in Publication 502. Keep doctumentation on all of the milage, and the times and dates of your appointments.

  3. Step 3

Keep your reciepts and doctumentation well organized, as you will need them when deducting your expenses on your taxes. You will also need this information if you are using a tax preparer, and for auditing and for your personal records.

on 8/1/2009 Great ideas. It wouldn't have occurred to me that travel expenses related to medical issues could be deducted. 5*
