All parents want their kids to look good. Saving money on kids clothing while still allowing your child to wear the things they like can be challenging, but it can be done! Being a savvy shopper and taking advantage of discounts and other shopping options will allow your kids to look great and you to keep some of your money in your pocket! Read on to learn how to save money on kids clothing. You're kids will be happy and so will you.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    ~ Be a Clearance Shopper ~

Whenever you walk into a clothing store - head directly for the clearance section. Avoid the displays on the walls and in the front of the stores as the clearance sections are almost always tucked into the back of the store or department. Make a goal to save money on kids clothing by never buying anything that's full price. Look for final mark-downs to find the best deals.

  2. Step 2

~ Sign Up for Store Emails ~

Almost all major stores now have email lists. The emails can be annoying, but they can also alert you to great sales. Set up a free email account just for these kinds of emails so your personal email account isn't constantly bombarded. When you receive an email from a store, briefly look it over for upcoming major sales - ignore the rest.

  3. Step 3

    ~ Shop Second-Hand ~

Just because you don't buy the full price, really expensive, brand name clothes as soon as they come out doesn't mean that other people don't. Check out your local second hand shops and garage sales for great deals. You'll often find cheap kids clothing that's hardly been worn or even items that still have tags!

  4. Step 4

~ Get Store Credit Cards at Select Stores ~

Some stores will have great sales for card holders. However, getting a store credit card is only a good idea if you are going to use it to take advantage of sales and will also pay your balance every month. Kohls, for example, often has sales with additional discounts that are only available to charge card holders. Choose your cards wisely and use them responsibly.

  5. Step 5

~ Buy Clothing Out of Season ~

One of the best ways to save money on kids clothing is to buy items at the end of the season. Buy summer clothes in the fall and winter clothing in the spring - just buy it a size too large. Stores have to get rid of items at the end of each season to make room for new deliveries and this is a great time to find the best deals.

  6. Step 6

    ~ Don't Overlook the Internet ~

Many retailers are turning to the internet to get rid of overstock. Bookmark your favorite clothing sites and visit their clearance sections frequently. Watch for free shipping coupons and do a google search to see if you can find any coupon codes before making any online purchases. People will often post coupon codes that can be used by anyone.

  7. Step 7

~ Buy Only What You Need ~

A good deal isn't really a good deal if you didn't need it in the first place. You can save a lot of money on kids clothing by deciding what you need and then buying no more than that. When you find something, like a brand of jeans, that your child really likes, you can buy more pairs as they go on sale but don't overdo it until you know you've found something your kids will wear.

  8. Step 8

~ Mix and Match Clothing ~

Buy tops and bottoms that will go with anything and you'll feel like your child has more clothing than they really do - because they have more options available to them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be an impulse buyer. Always know what you need before you head out to the store and stick to a list. If your child needs new pants, don't buy a bunch of shirts that they don't need just because they are on sale.
