Step 1
Start at the 10 foot line and anticipate where your setter is going to send the pass from your teammate. Communication with the team setter is important to setting up volleyball spikes anywhere on the court, so be vocal.
-
Step 2
Once the setter has called out your position on the net for a volleyball spike, start your approach. which should look something like; left step, right step, feet together. This builds forward and upward momentum so that you can hit your volleyball spike harder.
-
Step 3
Your position in volleyball (left, middle, outside) will decide when you contact the volleyball. Just remember to snap your wrist when you contact the volleyball for a spike.
-
Step 4
The next best way to improve your volleyball spike is to work on your vertical jump, and do strength training to make your arms more powerful and therefore your spike more intimidating. Do strength training 3 times a week with a focus on the calf and leg muscles, as well as arm, shoulder, and wrist strength.
