How to Make a frame for Rug Hooking

Following these instructions you will be able to make a frame to mount your rug hooking project on.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 stretcher bars 1/2" in width. The length of each bar is 4 inches longer then your project. For example: If the width of you project is 18" you will need 2 bars 22" long and if the length is 24" you
  • 4 carpet tacking strips with nails the size of each of your stretcher bars (these can be found at a store that sells carpet.
  • 3/8" or 1/2" nails
  • 1/2" foam core board
  • hand saw or power saw
  • x-acto knife or sharp kitchen knife
  1. Step 1

    Join your 4 stretcher bars by snaping them together.

  2. Step 2

    Using a saw cut your carpet tack strips to the size of your stretcher bars. Example: if 2 of your stretcher bars are 18" then cut 2 pieces of carpet strips to 18".

  3. Step 3

    Using your hammer and Nails, nail the carpet strips onto the top of your stretcher bars. Centering them on your stretcher bars.

  4. Step 4

    Using a x-acto knife or sharp knife cut your foam core board to match the size of your stretcher bars. Example if your bar is 1 1/2" wide and 18" long then cut your foam core board 1 1/2" wide by 18" long.

  5. Step 5

    You can take the fabric for your project and stretch it over the carpet tack nails. After it is stretched all around place the foam core board onto the carpet tack nails and press it down to protect your hands while working.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful while working with the carpet tack the nails on it are very sharp.
