Older homes did not come standard with a dishwasher. Unfortunately, the cost associated with installing a dishwasher where there wasn't one before can be quite expensive. It is necessary to run new plumbing and electrical in addition to the basic carpentry to remove existing cabinetry to fit the new dishwasher.
Step 1
Identify the location for your new dishwasher. A dishwasher requires an opening 24 inches in width and 34 inches tall. The cabinet you choose to remove needs to be 24 inches in width. Locate the dishwasher near the sink for plumbing and drainage purposes.

Step 2
Using a hammer, hit the cabinet face from the back side. This will pop the face frame from the cabinet. If you are salvaging the cabinet, this step may not be required.
Step 3
Locate any screws along the sides, back or top of the inside the cabinet and remove. These screws hold the cabinet to the wall, countertop and other cabinets.
Step 4
Pull the cabinet straight out. A speed bar may be required to aid in the removal process. Clean up any debris or protruding objects from the existing cabinets.
Step 5
Locate the cabinet sidewall between the dishwasher opening and garbage disposal.
Step 6
Use a 1 1/2" spade bit to drill a hole from the dishwasher opening through the sidewall near the garbage disposal. The dishwasher will drain into the garbage disposal.
Step 7
Use a 1/2" spade bit to drill another hole towards the back of the cabinet. This is only required if electrical is needed to run from under the sink to the dishwasher.
