Watch Home TV on a Computer With a Sling Box

A Sling Box is a relatively inexpensive piece of equipment that allows the user to connect remotely to her home cable or satellite box and watch TV, over the internet, from anywhere in the world. This article will show you how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Router with Free Ethernet Port and High-Speed Internet Connection
  • Ethernet Cable
  1. Step 1

Using the Ethernet cable, connect the Sling Box to your home network via the router.

  2. Step 2

Using either the included RCA cables or an S-video cable, connect the Sling Box to your cable or satellite box.

  3. Step 3

Attach the IR remote controller to your cable or satellite box, and connect the cable to the Sling Box. This enables you to change the channel remotely.

  4. Step 4

Make a note of the brand and model of your cable or satellite box. You will need this later for setup.

  5. Step 5

Using the CD provided with the Sling Box, install the Slingplayer software on your computer.

  6. Step 6

Once the software is installed, connect to your home network either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable.

  7. Step 7

Start up the Slingplayer software. The software will search the network for an installed Sling Box and prompt you for setup information. When prompted, input the type of connection, brand and model of the signal source, and any other information.

  8. Step 8

Reboot the computer, completing the installation.

  9. Step 9

To watch TV on your computer, make sure that your Internet connection at home is active, and start Slingplayer on the computer. The software will locate your Sling Box at home, connect to it, and allow you to view it on your computer monitor.
