These are the directions for the disassembly of the Winchester model 55 singleshot .22 rifle for cleaning or repair.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • clean work surface
  • small container
  • small punch
  • small hammer
  • flathead screwdriver
  1. Step 1

KEEP RIFLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION AT ALL TIMES!!!!

  2. Step 2

Check rifle to make sure it is unloaded.

  3. Step 3

Cock rifle & put it on safe (the easiest way to do this is pull back charging handle in right side of barrel & then push down the loading gate.

  4. Step 4

Loosen the screw on the underside of the rifle in front of the ejection port. The screw on mine is "captured" in the stock & does not come out of the stock Then remove the barrel & action from the stock.

  5. Step 5

Drift out barrel pin that is located under the action at the front. Pull barrel out of the action. This might take a slight twiting motion to remove. PUT ALL REMOVED SMALL PARTS IN CONTAINER

  6. Step 6

Drift out the pin holding the loading gate on the action. Lift out loading gate.

  7. Step 7

Put the front of the action against a flat wood surface. Take the safety off, hold action firmly against the wood surface (KEEP YOUR FINGERS OUT OF THE ACTION) & pull trigger. This will push the bolt & safety rod assy out of the action. Thats it, the rifle is disassembled.

  8. Step 8

Reassemble is done in the reverse order. Make sure the bolt is lined up so the flat on it is positioned up towards the loading gate. Use the punch against the face of the bolt off of the firingpin to push the bolt in till it is locked in. Everthing else is as easy as dropping in the part & pinning it.
