Play Virtual Guitar Online

If you want to play the guitar right from your computer keyboard, a virtual guitar gives you all the tools you need to play notes, chords and your own songs. Strum the strings, change the chords and save your work. It's a useful resource for improving your skills with your real guitar, or practicing until you get one. It also provides an educational learning tool for children who are interested in music.

Instructions

    • 1

Open one of the many virtual guitar websites, such as those listed under Resources.

    • 2

Click an individual string to play a note, or drag your mouse across the strings to strum the guitar. If the virtual guitar has a "Strum" button, click this to strum the guitar.

    • 3

Play a chord by clicking on its name, or selecting it from the drop down box that says "Open." You can change it from "Open" to the name of the chord. The box that says "Major" allows you to switch between major, minor and 7th for your chords.

    • 4

Press the "Save" or "Record" button to save the chords you have created, or record as you play the guitar. (Not all virtual guitars have this option.)

    • 5

Click the "Help" button, if there is one, to read any special instructions that may apply only to that specific virtual guitar program. If there is no help button, scroll down the screen to look for additional instructions underneath the virtual guitar application.
