How to Buy HVAC Tools

Tools used for HVAC systems are more difficult to find than more commonly used tools. Buyers in search of these specialty tools have to take a few extra measures. Nevertheless, these tools can be found online--and often at a discounted price--if you know where to look and what you are looking for.

1. Check local pawn shops and flea markets. These places often have a wide variety of tools. You may be able to find used HVAC tools in good condition and at very reasonable prices.

2. Check eBay; chances are you can find the tool you want up for auction. It is very easy to set up an account and learn to buy and sell. If you are capable of surfing the Internet, you can use eBay.

3. Search for local and online specialty tool sellers. See the resources section for the web address of one of these sellers.

4. Browse Craigslist. Craigslist has become very popular with sellers because listing items is free. You can often find a good selection of items. Keep in mind that you need to follow the site's recommendations for safe transactions (see the reference section). One of these precautions advises strongly against using money orders as payment, due to the amount of fraud associated with them.

Tips & Warnings

• It is better to buy an older, used tool by a recognized high-quality maker, even if it is not as pleasing to the eye as a shiny tool from a low-quality manufacturer.
