There are several different ways to create a bootable CD. But unless you are fairly experienced and have the time to devote to the task, you are probably better off using one of the many programs specially designed to produce bootable CDs. The program detailed here is Nero Burning ROM 7.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put a blank CD in the CD-ROM burner. Start Nero. In the dialog that opens, select "Nero Burning Rom 7".

  2. Step 2

In the dialog that opens, go to the panel on the left and scroll down. Click on "CD-ROM (Boot)". Now click on the "Image File" button and browse to the file you want to use. Then under "Advanced", change "Kind of Emulation" to "No Emulation." Change the "Number of Loaded Sectors" to 4. Then click on the "ISO" tab.

  3. Step 3

Change the "File System" to "ISO 9660 Joliet", the "File Name Length" to "Max. of 11-8+3 (Level 1) and the "Character Set" to "ISO 9660." Then click on the "Burn" tab.

  4. Step 4

Change the "Write Method" to "Disk at Once." Click on "Finalize Disk." Then click "New."

  5. Step 5

Select "Recorder" from the menu, and click "Burn Compilation." Then Click "Burn" again, and your bootable CD will be burned.
