Things You'll Need:

  • Website
  1. Step 1
Optimize your website for search engines
Optimize your website for search engines

We all know the big search engines, Google, MSN, Yahoo, ASK. These search engine's use software that crawls the web looking for new websites to list and rank. The search engines create lists based on key words and phrases. You must optimize your keywords and phrases so the search engines can find you and give you a high page ranking.

  2. Step 2
    Use relevant keywords
    Use relevant keywords

Use phrases that your customer may use when looking for your product. For example: If you are a dentist, be sure to use the Keyword “dentist” many times in your website. Also be sure to mention your geographic location. Many customers search by typing in their city or Zip code.

  3. Step 3

An easy way to get found by the search engine's is to register your website with them. You can go to submit express and type in your URL and it will list your website to the top 20 search engines for free. This is a huge timesaver and guarantees that your website will be found by the search engine's. Some people suggest doing this once a month but no more than that or your website may be written off as spam.

  4. Step 4
    Get some links
    Get some links

Get a few links. The Search engines give you a higher page rank when you have inbound links from other websites which increases your traffic. Talk to other businesses you do business with and see if the owners would like to share links with you, or sign up for one of the many free link exchange programs. Be sure your website links to relevant content.

  5. Step 5

You may also buy search engine placement. Search engines sell listings for keywords. This is not a bad way to go since you will usually only pay for “clicks”. Keywords are based on demand for a specific phrase. You can check out keyword prices on Overture. Go to their site and click on “view bid tools”.

  6. Step 6
Place ads with Google ad words
Place ads with Google ad words

Start an ad campaign. You can buy ads to get the word out on your website. Try Google ad words. They have been around for a long time and do a wonderful job. Be sure the ads are placed on websites relevant to your product.

  7. Step 7

Put your website address on everything. Every e-mail, every piece of paper, invoices, advertisement, etc. You want people to easily find your website.

  8. Step 8

Frequently update your website with new content. Search engines love new content and frequently adding content will increase your page ranking, thus increasing traffic to your website.

  9. Step 9

There are many ways to drive traffic to your website with search engines but these techniques are proven to work.
