Apple has always prided themselves in being secure from virus but it seems that one has slipped by them. The Apple iPhone appears to be vulnerable to a virus which is spread via the SMS message application. The only thing a hacker needs to infect a users phone is the current phone number which is linked to the phone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The new Apple iPhone virus is said to be vicious. If your phone is infected the hacker will be able to steal data and personal information from your phone. As well the hacker will be able to actually send SMS messages and even make calls from your phone which will be billed to you. Not Good!!! Whats worse is once they have gained access to one phone they will be able to tap into the owners contact list and infect everyone on their friends list. This means the virus is likely to spread quickly.

  2. Step 2

The only thing a hacker needs to infect a phone is the number which is currently linked to the phone. The phone is then infected via a series of text message controls which the user will likely never see until the phone has already been violated and infected with the virus. Once this has happened the hacker basically overtakes the phone and has control over calls as well as text messages.

  3. Step 3

There is really nothing a person can do to protect their phone other than to keep it turned off, which is not very practical. The only other option would be to place the phone on airplane mode blocking the ability to make and receive calls or send and receive text messages, which is again not very practical in terms of having a cell phone in the first place.

  4. Step 4

There are signs to indicate if a phone has been infected with the virus. If the phone randomly starts calling people or sending text messages by itself then there is a good possibility that it has been infected with the iPhone virus. Once a phone has been infected the only way to restore it is to wipe the application clean and reload the firmware.

  5. Step 5

The good news is that Apple is planning to release a patch (iPhone 3.1 Firmware update) which would protect the phones vulnerability to the virus. The patch is not expected to be released until sometime in September. Until then I guess users just hope for the best and pray that their phone is not infected.
