How to Make your own Heart Shaped Ring Bearer Pillow

How to Make your own Heart Shaped Ring Bearer Pillow thumbnail
Make a pillow as special as your rings.

A photograph of a heart shaped, lace trimmed ring bearer pillow with your rings tied on with satin ribbons is a beautiful addition to your bridal album. You can make a pillow to display your wedding rings. Send you little ring bearer down the aisle with the same pillow, but to keep your rings safe during the ceremony. Use inexpensive gold-colored rings from a bakery supply store on the pillow and let your best man hold the real rings.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a 10-inch-wide heart on paper. Draw a line 1/2 inch from the edge of the heart to make the pattern for the pillow. The extra fabric around the edge is for the seam allowance.

    • 2

Use the pattern to cut two pieces from satin fabric and one from lace. These will be the top and bottom of the pillow. The lace will be an overlay on top of the pillow.

    • 3

Lay the top of the pillow on the table, right side up. Lay the lace over the satin, aligning all edges. This is the top of the pillow.

    • 4

Pin 2 inch ruffled lace trim around the edge of the pillow top, with the straight edge of the trim aligned with the edge of the pillow and the ruffle toward the center of the pillow.

    • 5

Connect the trim to the top of the pillow by sewing 1/2 inch from the edge of the pillow top.

    • 6

Cut a 1 1/2 yard piece of 1/4 inch wide ribbon in half and sew the center of both pieces to the center of the top of the pillow. The ribbons will be in the center of the ruffles. Cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle to prevent fraying. These will be the ties to hold the rings on the pillow.

    • 7

Pin the ribbon and ruffles to the center of the top of the pillow to keep them out of the way. Be sure all the pins are at least an inch from the edge.

    • 8

Lay the pillow top right side up on the table. The ribbons and ruffles will be on the top side. Place the bottom of the pillow right side down on top of it. Sew the top to the bottom by sewing 1/2 inch from the edge. Leave a 3 inch opening in one side for turning.

    • 9

Cut perpendicular slits into the seam allowance every 1/4 inch around the curves and in the "V" in the center of the top of the heart. Cut off the seam allowance below the point on the bottom of the heart. Cut close to the seam, but not through it. These slits allow the edge of the pillow to remain smooth after the pillow is turned.

    • 10

Turn the pillow right side out, remove the pins and stuff it firmly with polyester fiberfill stuffing. Sew the opening in the pillow closed by hand.
