How to Cover Gray Roots on the Cheap

Sometimes that last week or so right before your next color appointment, your gray roots get out of control. With an eyebrow pencil, a mirror and about ten minutes, you can fake your way thru till your appointment. Just make sure you get the right color, because in the sunlight, the wrong color will be really obvious!

Things You'll Need:

• An eyebrow pencil a shade or two lighter than your natural color (or the color you're sporting at the moment.
• A mirror - preferably one mounted on the wall - you'll need two hands
• Good lighting - natural light works best but any well lite room will do.

1. Make sure your eye pencil is sharp. Grab hair, about 2 inches from the root, and about 1/4 inch in width. With the pencil held perpendicular to the hair shift, run it up and down, and then across the visible gray.

2. Work sections of hair, from front to top of head, or until the visible gray is covered. Work sides, near temples the same way, except work the pencil from front to back of hair, away from skin.

3. Spritz 'penciled" hair with non-aerosol hairspray. Should last several days if no heavily shampooed, but rinsed instead.

Tips & Warnings

• Having natural light makes it easier to match eyebrow pencil colors to hair and cover all the gray.
