How To Change DNS for a Registered Domain
You've put up your website and purchased your domain name, and now you want to know how to set it up so your domain name actually points at your website. Changing your DNS (domain name server) to reflect your registered domain name, as opposed to your subdomain name that you got with your website hosting package, is not as difficult as you might think. The setup process itself only takes about 15 minutes, although it does take longer for it to take effect.

1
Log on to your website host and add your domain name to your account. There should be a place for you to do this in your Account Information area.
-
2
Locate your website host's nameservers. These should be in the "help" area, or if your website host has a forum, they could be there as well. An example of what a nameserver looks like is "ns1.110mb.com". There should be more than one nameserver, and you should write them all down.

3
Log in to your domain registry and click on your domain name. This should open another window that gives you a set of options, one of them being to "Manage Nameservers". Click on this or an option similar in wording.
-
4
Type in all the nameservers you wrote down from your website host, and then click "Save". This, combined with adding your new domain name to your website hosting account, will start the process of pointing your new domain name to your website.
-
5
Test your new website domain name. You can do this by typing your domain name into your web browser and seeing if it goes to your website.
