Design a Shed

Want to design a shed? There are many reasons why building your own shed is worthwhile. It's cheap, fun, and sometimes faster than dealing with a construction company. By designing your own shed, you can make it look exactly how you want.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Decide on a Location
First you need to decide where you're going to put your new shed. Figure how large of a space you have to work with.

  2. Step 2

    Measure the Area
Next you need to measure the area where you're going to place your new shed. Measure the ground area to figure out how large the floor will be and also measure how tall he want the shed to be.

  3. Step 3

    Floor
Make a simple sketch of your new shed. You don't need to be a master artist to design a shed; you only need a simple sketch. Write in the size of the floor and height you measured from the step above. It's best to keep it to a simple shape such as a square or rectangle.

  4. Step 4

    Walls & Roof
Next draw the walls and make sure that they are tall enough to allow a person to enter the shed. To design a shed roof, consider a flat roof. These are simple to build and are just fine for an outdoor shed. Make a quick sketch of the roof.

  5. Step 5

    Windows
Next draw in where you want the windows to be placed. These should be in the upper portion of the walls. You can have 1 or multiple windows.

  6. Step 6

    Get Pre-made Shed Plans
If you decide you don't want to design a shed of your own, you may want to consider getting some plans that are already pre-designed. You can get these from books at the library, a local construction company, or online. See the "Resources" section below for a place to download shed plans online.
