Instructions

    • 1

Understand how AdWords works. AdWords' advertising slots are administered on a pay-per-click basis and point viewers to a link of your choice. This means you do not pay anything for the ad unless someone clicks on the link, after which you pay a preset fee for each click. You set the amount of money you wish to spend on clicks per day and are charged on monthly.

    • 2

Choose a sales market in which you can buy cheap AdWords advertising slots and make a profit. You must have a website to generate revenue, or an affiliate product through a service such as Clickbank (see Resources). For the latter, you are provided an affiliate link to a product or service offered by a third party. This party pays you a commission for sales generated through your affiliate link. For example, someone may have an affiliate link for dog toys that pays her a commission of $5 per sale. If she advertises the affiliate link for less than $5, she may make a profit if people buy the product when they click her ad.

    • 3

Identify cheap advertising keywords using the Google AdWords Keyword Tool (see Resources), which displays the cost of clicks for keywords that you enter. Enter keywords that are related to your website or affiliate link. For example, if you are selling dishcloths, type "dishcloth" in to the keyword tool. Google will then generate a list of related keywords.

    • 4

Write down the keywords that are related to your product but cost less than the product itself. For example, if your affiliate product are $5 dishcloths, you do not want to pay more than $5 for each click. To maximize your profit, identify the cheapest ad keywords associated with your product or audience.

    • 5

Login to your Google AdWords account. If you do not have an account, register for a free one.

    • 6

Press the blue-and-white button that reads, "+ New Campaign." Follow the onscreen prompts to create your new ad promoting your affiliate link or website.

    • 7

Enter your ad text that tells the viewer what he will receive when he clicks on your link. This is your sales copy and your only chance to engage the reader. Use action verbs and highlight the benefits to the reader, such as "Cheap dishcloths found nowhere else."

    • 8

Include your affiliate link or a link to your website. Under the "Daily" header, enter the amount you wish to spend on your ad clicks. After you have depleted your daily budget, your ads will cease to appear until the next day. Press the "Save" button.

    • 9

Launch the new ad campaign. It may take up to 24 hours for your ad to show up in Google and Google's partner websites. You will make money when a reader clicks an ad and buys a product. You pay for each click but make an income off of clicks that generate sales. Login to your AdWords account and monitor click activity. Note ads that do well and create new ones that are similar to copy your success. Meanwhile, take down ads that do not generate sales in order to minimize your overhead costs on unsuccessful leads.

Tips & Warnings

  • Focus on misspelled keywords. For example, someone looking for "dishcloths" may accidentally type "dishclothes." Misspelled keywords are typically cheaper per click but can still generate sales.

  • Avoid using trademarked names or brands in your AdWords ad since these are typically protected and may result in your ad getting rejected by Google.
