Learn to fire a rifle with ease and confidence.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rifle
  • Ammo
  • Target
  1. Step 1

Choose a rifle that fits your abilities. A lower caliber is best for a beginner. It has less recoil thus resulting in less "flinch".

  2. Step 2

Find an area with a good backstop and be sure of what's beyond your target. Once you fire a gun, the bullet can never be brought back.

  3. Step 3

Hang a target using a clothes pin or other object, such as a nail, and step off a reasonable distance.

  4. Step 4

Point the rifle down range (towards your target). Make sure the safety is in the "on" position, open the action, and load the rifle.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the safety is in the "on" position. Take a good steady rest and settle the rifle into the "pocket" of your shoulder, just under the collar bone. Hold it firm. Not too tight, not too loose.

  6. Step 6

With the rifle pointed down range, move the safety to the "off" position and slowly squeeze the trigger.
