Once your layout is set, using chalk or spray paint make a parallel line to the hose on each side as wide as you want your side walk. After this is complete, take a spade and dig out dirt and sod to a depth of 4-6", along the entire length of the walk.

      level height

Take your flat shovel and square off edges and level the bottom of your layout are. After you have completed this step fill in area with 4" of crushed stone or slag for a base and weed barrier. When area is full tamp down until compacted. Then using stakes and string. Run a line the length of the walkway to an even height. For drainage to keep water from polling, your pavers should be slightly higher than ground level.

Once line is set, start laying your pavers on the base tamping each as you go to set in base material, keeping top of paver at string line. You may have to add or remove some base material to stay level with line as you go. Continue this until entire area is filled in with pavers.

When area is filled, spread sand over tops of pavers and work into the cracks and spaces with a broom. The sand will lock pavers together and solidify its natural look. After all is complete lightly wet down entire area to settle sand and reapply if necessary.
