Plaster of Paris is a quick drying form of plaster that is a excellent for creating masques and other craft shapes. The finished product is light and strong enough to worn out for an evening of Halloween fun, and yet soft enough to be carved to make the face and hands of a doll. You can make Plaster of Paris with two simple ingredients that you most likely already have in your kitchen.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Flour
  • Warm Water
  • Measuring Cup
  • Mixing Spoon
  1. Step 1

In a mixing bowl combine one cup of warm water for every two cups of flour.

  2. Step 2

Mix the flour and water until there are no lumps remaining. The finished paste should be smooth and creamy.

  3. Step 3

Bring your Plaster of Paris to where you will be working immediately so it will not cool down.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prepare the surface of your cast before you begin mixing the Plaster of Paris, this way you can use it as soon as the mixture is smooth enough.
  • Don't try to use Plaster of Paris that has cooled in the mixing bowl, nor try to save it for later use, once the Plaster of Paris has cooled it will no longer be malleable enough to use for anything but will form a cast of the bottom of your bowl.
