Prepare For a Juice Fast

Ok, so you have decided to do a fast, or are at least thinking about it. You are doing the first step which is research. Good for you! A juice fast is a great thing to do for your body. Refresh it and recharge it. Fasting is not all that hard as some may make it seem. Just follow these simple steps in preparation for the fast. You MUST prepare, please do not just dive in.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • organic lemons
  1. Step 1

First you must gain the support of your significant other. Explain to them why you want to do this. Give them reasons and inform them of the benefits of this. This step is very important and vital to your success with a juice fast. Without this support you may fall off the wagon, especially if this is your first time.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a juicer. You don't need anything fancy or expensive, just one that does the job. Check out your local target, walmart, or Kmart. Even amazon.com.

  3. Step 3

Clean out your refrigerator of all the bad stuff. Anything that you think may derail you. You don't need that stuff around anyway. This may be harder if you live with a family.

  4. Step 4

To prepare your system for a juice fast you will need a minimum of 5 days. This is how long it takes your body to rid of most of the bad food you have eaten. During this time you will be eating only raw fruits and veggies. By doing this you are giving your body a chance to clean out before the fast and repair itself. Eat as much as you want during these 5 days but make sure have variety so you don't get bored.

  5. Step 5

Also buy some fasting tea. Yogi sells a great one. Peach Detox or Fasting tea. Smooth Move tea is also great.(this is the one that I use) This is loaded with herbs that help clear out your system.

  6. Step 6

Go shopping! Try to buy as much organic as you can afford. If you can't that's okay too. Just buy some veggie and fruit wash or apple cider vinegar to wash your produce.

  7. Step 7

Start with your veggies. Buy only the basics for your first fast. This includes carrots, celery, romaine lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cucumber, peppers, and anything else you heart desires.

  8. Step 8

Next choose your fruits. Have fun! The only fruits you cannot have is citrus fruits. They contain too much acid. Try some new things during this time. Mango and pineapple are great, so are all types of berries. You can make fruit salads and fill up fast.

  9. Step 9

Don't forget to buy lemons! This is the most important fruit you can buy. Lemons work wonders during a fast. Lemons are a natural cleanser. Drink hot water with juice of half a lemon each morning. It kick-starts your system charges you up!

  10. Step 10

Bring all of your produce home. Clean and cut up in ready to eat portions. This will make it easy to eat. Prevents you from getting lazy and eating something you shouldn't. Store in a air tight container in the fridge. Your produce can last up to 5 days in the fridge.

  11. Step 11

Some say to have a plan of what you are going to eat. To me this is too much work just to prepare. Eat what you feel like. You can have as much as you'd like so enjoy.

  12. Step 12

Start your preparation the following morning starting with the hot lemon water. See step #9.

  13. Step 13

Do this for 5 days then start your juice fast.

Tips & Warnings
  • Eat ALOT to keep yourself full
  • Keep yourself hydrated
  • Stay active
  • Take naps if possible
  • If your stomach growls, feed it!
  • I suggest being close to a bathroom when you drink the tea. It will take a toll on your system. Some get alot of cramps along with very loose stools... This is a GOOD thing.
  • Beware of side effects such as headache, cramping, lightheadedness, etc
  • You cannot drink juices from the supermarket. You need fresh squeezed juice from your home.
  • You may find yourself extra tired, take a nap to recharge
  • Do not do this if you are nursing or pregnant
