Proportions for the Ears, Head and Body.

Any size and color of a crew type of sock can be used to create a sock bunny. The size of the selected sock will be determine the size of the finished project. Some types of socks will have a great texture when turned inside out. The photo shows approximate proportions for the bunny's ears, head and body. The ears are the ankle portion of the sock, the head is centered around the heel area and the foot/toe end will be the body.

  2. Step 2
    Stuff the Body Portion.

As a special touch, create a fabric heart and fill with lavender. This can be inserted into the bunny's body before stitching the neck. This step is totally optional.

  4. Step 4
Gather the sock at the neck and top of the head.

Gather the sock at the neck and top of the head.

Using a large craft needle with a length of knotted yarn, gather the sock onto the needle to create the neck. Wrap the yarn tightly several times around the gathered sock to separate the body from the head. Secure the thread. Stuff the head portion. Then, repeat the process of gathering and wrapping the sock with the yarn at the top of the head and secure the thread.

  5. Step 5
Create the Eyes, Nose and Mouth with Yarn.

Create the Eyes, Nose and Mouth with Yarn.

With a large craft needle threaded with yarn create the eyes and nose. Insert the needle through the head into a three point, triangular design, two points on top will be the eyes and one point below will be the nose. This method will also shape the head. Continue this pattern several times to create a satin stitch for the eyes and nose until they are at the desired size. Fashion the mouth under the nose using a straight embroidery stitch.

  6. Step 6
    Cut the Ears

    Cut the Ears

To create the bunny's ears, cut the ankle portion of the sock, above the head, in half lengthwise. Trim curves at the end of the ears. Hand or machine stitch the edges of the ears together. This will help shape the ears.

  7. Step 7
Glue the Neck Area to add Stability.

Glue the Neck Area to add Stability.

Add fabric glue to the neck area. Push the head and body together until the glue dries. This adds some stability to the head.

  8. Step 8
    Whiskers!

    Whiskers!

One way to create whiskers is to insert the large craft needle threaded with yarn back and forth on both sides of the nose to create loops of yarn. Cut the loops and tie knots at the base of each yarn to secure.

  9. Step 9
    Add a Scarf!

Cut a small triangular piece of fabric to use as a scarf. Tie the scarf around the bunny's neck. And now you have a sock bunny to share with someone you love!

Tips & Warnings
