Things You'll Need:
- fresh hydrangeas
- alum powder
- small bowl of water
- sharp scissors
- tray
-
Step 1
Remember to cut your fresh hydrangeas early in the morning when it is cool for best results. Place the stems in a bucket of lukewarm water while harvesting.
-
Step 2
Cut the stems to desired lengths. Two to three inches for wreath making and leave longer for bouquets. Always use sharp scissors and cut at an angle. Remove all of the foliage before step number three.
-
Step 3
Dip the end of the stem into the bowl of water, and then in the alum powder. Place the short stems on a tray to dry naturally. The long stems may be gently placed into vases to enjoy! Keep in a cool dry place and out of direct sunlight during the preserving process. It will take one to two weeks depending on room temperature and humidity to complete the process.
