You will learn to play Octopus tag with a group of 6 or more kids

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Open space to run
  • some time of cones or lines
  1. Step 1

Choose one child to be it. If you havea large group or the "it" person is slower than most of the kids, you may choose two kids to be "it." The "it(s)" will start in the middle of the court or field.

  2. Step 2

Have the remainder of the kids line up on a line. The "it" calls a color. Anyone wearing that color has to run from the line to the line on the other side of the court. The "it" tries to tag them before they get to the line. If they are tagged, they must sit down where they were tagged. If the "it" yells "Octopus," everyone has to run to the other line regardless of what colors they are wearing.

  3. Step 3

Once a child has been tagged, the must stay seated and they can tag others as they run by. They are not allowed to move.

  4. Step 4

When all the kids have made it to the other line, they play from the other side. When you are down to 1 or two kids left, you can make them the "it(s)" for the next game.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some people add a rule that you cannot call a color that only one person is wearing and if one person is left, they get a free walk.
  • Make sure there is ample room and the lines are not too close to walls.
  • You may want to have a talk about appropriate ways to tag and not push.
