Things You'll Need:
- Bell Ribbon or String Puppy Patience
-
Step 1
Choose the best door for your pet to go potty. A back or side door is suggested.
-
Step 2
Choose a bell that is easily rung. A small cow bell or a medium to large holiday bell. Remember if you hearing problems, you will want to choose a bell that rings louder. If you have small children that are easily awoke during naps-you might want to choose a bell with a softer ring.
-
Step 3
Decide on a colorful ribbon. Finding a ribbon that matches your decor will make the hanging bell seem a part of your interior design. You may like to go with a wide showey ribbon, or something thinner and a little less noticeable.
-
Step 4
Tie the bell to the ribbon, then the ribbon to the door knob or handle.
-
Step 5
Each time you take your dog potty, tap the bell and say "potty" or another phrase you choose. Always say the same thing when you make the bell ring. This should be done each and everytime you take the dog out.
-
Step 6
After several days or a couple weeks-depending on how easily your dog picks up this method, your pet should begin to tap the bell with his own paw, indicating to you, they need go out.
