How to Pull Forward on a Motorcycle When Stopped at the Bottom of a Grade

There's always the risk of rolling backward into something when you're stopped on a hill on your motorcycle. The guidelines listed below can make it easier to safely deal with such troubling situations.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Use the front brake to keep the motorcycle in place while you're starting the engine and shifting into first gear.

  2. Step 2

    Switch to the foot brake to stay in place while operating the throttle with your right hand.

  3. Step 3

    Open the throttle a bit for increased power.

  4. Step 4

    Let up on the rear brake as your engine starts to slow down. This means it's starting to take hold.

  5. Step 5

    Release the clutch gently. If it as popped too abruptly, you can pull a wheelie or the engine can stall.
