Things You'll Need:
- Dipper gourd
- Bottle gourd
- Glue
- Drill or something else to make the holes.
-
Step 1
Start by picking out a medium-size dipper and a medium-size bottle gourd. Make sure that when you pick them up and shake them you can hear the seeds. The dipper gourd needs to have a tapered bottom and the bottle gourd needs to have a flatten bottom.
-
Step 2
Now That you have your gourds we will start with the dipper. Cut of the neck at the base of the neck. Clean out the seeds and fibers. Save the stem, we will use this as the perch.
-
Step 3
Drill the entrance about a 1 1/4" wide, place the entrance just above half up. Once you have the entrance drilled, drill a smaller hole for the stem. Put some glue on the end of the stem and place in the hole.
-
Step 4
Cut the bottle gourd just below its widest point. We are going to use the bottom piece as the acorn cap and the stem as the stem of the acorn. Drill a small hole in the center of the cap, just big enough for the stem. Again put glue on the end of the stem and place in the hole.
-
Step 5
Now it is time to assemble the birdhouse. Start by putting glue around the inside of the cap and place it on the bottom piece.
-
Step 6
To make it look more realistic you can paint or wood burn it. Either way when you are completed make sure to spray it with an acrylic clear coat.
-
Step 7
Now that you have your birdhouse is done all that is left to do is hang it up and enjoy it.
