Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • microwave or melting pot
  • chocolate wafers
  • bowl
  • chocolate dipping tongs or two coffee stirrers.
  • plastic sandwich bags
  • wax paper
  • Pretzels
  1. Step 1

First of all you might be wondering what chocolate melting wafers are. They are round chocolate disks, approximately the size of a nickel, they can be purchased at craft stores, candy supply stores and sometimes at your local supermarket. These disks melt well and you do not have to add anything to them. They also come in many different colors and flavors. Chocolates usually come in one pound bags. If you are using a melting pot fill the pot to the top and melt down the chocolate, as the chocolate melts add more to fill the pot. If you are using a microwave fill a good size soup or salad bowl with chocolate and put in the microwave at 30 second intervals (check and stir after each 30 seconds). Be careful bowl will get hot, be sure not to burn chocolate or it will be ruined.

  2. Step 2

Spread wax paper onto a flat service, preferably on a cookie sheet. When the chocolate is completely melted remove from microwave and set on flat service. If using melting pot wait for chocolate to melt completely. You can use any type of pretzel, I find the ones with the largest holes work the best. You can also use pretzel sticks.

  3. Step 3

Submerge your first pretzel into the chocolate and cover completely, if using pretzel sticks you will have to use a spoon to pour the chocolate over the stick. Use your chocolate tongs or two coffee stirrers to lift the pretzel out of the chocolate. Let the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. Transfer the pretzel to the wax paper, try not to move the pretzel once you have put it on the wax paper, wait for it to harden. Repeat with remaining pretzels. Transfer finished pretzels to refrigerator and let harden for at least 10 minutes. Remove pretzels from refrigerator. If you would like to add some detail to your pretzel put some different colored chocolate wafers (about 10 wafers) into a plastic lunch bag, melt in the microwave for 30 second intervals until completely melted. Push chocolate into one corner of the bag, take scissors and snip an extremely small corner off the bag. Be sure to keep the snipped off corner up so that the chocolate does not run out. Drizzel the chocolate over the the pretzels and let harden. Pretzels will lift easily off the wax paper and you can display them on a serving tray.
