If you are like me you will screen most of your calls if you do not recognize the phone number. Especially if you are trying to avoid certain companies or people.

Usually they will not leave a message if it's a collection agency or a salesperson. A long distance phone number is a red flag to avoid the phone if you are late on a payment and want to avoid a collections call.

But if you don't recognize a phone number and it doesn't appear to be long distance, here are some things that you can do to track who called you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call the phone number from a public phone if you don't want the person to recognize your phone number. Maybe you have an old boyfriend or girlfriend who is stalking you and you want to make sure but don't want them to know you are calling.

  2. Step 2

Look on the internet. You can check Google or Yahoo for information. If it's a bill collector you will find many places where people post complaints about callers.

  3. Step 3

Check with Intellius if you have a phone number and want an address or name for a person. You will find that they have a lot of information for a small price. Sometimes it's worth it if you have a stalker or if you think your mate is cheating (you can look up numbers on their phone as well!).
