How to be Safe During a Lightning Storm

Lightning can be very dangerous. Taking some simple precautions during a lightning storm can help to keep you and your family safe.

Instructions

1. Find shelter if you are outdoors. Go to the nearest building and go inside. It's true what they say about standing under a tree! Don't stand under or near trees or other tall things like billboards, telephone or utility poles!

2. Stay indoors. If you are already inside, do not go outside. Wait out the storm until it is safe to go outdoors again.

3. Refrain from using the telephone (both cellular or landline) or electrical items - like a computer or television. Stay away from the windows.

4. Pull over if you are driving in your car and wait out the storm before continuing on. If you can, pull over and leave your car!

5. Remember that lightning strikes the highest point, so do what you can NOT to be the highest point!
