Living a green lifestyle and living frugally go hand in hand. Buying less, recycling and finding ways to cut back on expenses such as gasoline and electricity are all green and frugal. Many people think that living green and frugal means giving up buying new or enjoying life, but the truth is it really means consuming less and saving more money. It just depends upon how frugal and how green you want to be. Whether you choose to change your lifestyle only a little, or a lot, either way you will save money and help the environment. Here are some ways to live green and frugal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Determination to save money and help the environment.
  1. Step 1
Save money by not wasting water and electricity.

Wash only full loads of laundry at a time to save on water use. This also saves on hot water use which can lower your electricity bill.

  2. Step 2

Close curtains and drapes on hot summer days so your house stays cooler. This way your air conditioner will run less and save on electricity. Or, if you don't have an air conditioner, it will save electricity from not having to run fans to cool off the house.

  3. Step 3
Always wait until the dishwasher is full to do a load.

Turn on your dishwasher only when it is completely full to save on water. Also, turn off the heat dry to save on electricity.

  4. Step 4

Save on water use by using a low-flow showerhead in your shower. Also, add a faucet aerator to every faucet in your home. Faucet aerators conserve water while keeping the water pressure high.

  5. Step 5

Do shop the weekly specials at your grocery store and stock up on freezable items, like meat, when they are on special.

  6. Step 6

Forget about buying water in bottles and use a water filter instead to purify your drinking water. You can use re-useable water bottles so you aren't filling up our landfills with all those plastic bottles. This will also save you over $400 a year if you don't buy water in bottles.

  7. Step 7

Make extra money by recycling. Aluminum cans, steel, iron and brass can all be recycled for money. Turn in plastic and glass bottles for deposit money in states that allow this. You can earn a little extra money and be green all at once.

  8. Step 8

Make extra money by recycling. Aluminum cans, steel, iron and brass can all be recycled for money. Turn in plastic and glass bottles for deposit money in states that allow this. You can earn a little extra money and be green all at once.
