Things You'll Need:
- flat iron
- comb or hairpick
- hair clips or pins
- pressing comb for very curly hair
- heat source (stovetop or professional stove)
-
Step 1
Start with clean and conditioned hair. Part hair into four equal sections; six for very long or very thick hair. Secure all sections of the hair except one of the lateral back sections (left or right, your choice) with clips or pins. The unsecured section will be the first section you straighten.
-
Step 2
Heat the flat iron. To prevent burning, test a small section of hair with the flat iron, hair should not smolder or fry, if it does, it is too hot, allow it to cool down. If it does not straighten, it is too cool. Continue testing until ideal temperature is achieved.
-
Step 3
Beginning at the nape of the neck, part a small section of hair about 1/2" square, brush or comb through just before straightening with your flat iron. Straighten from roots to ends. Continue this process from nape to crown, from one side to the other, then straighten the front of scalp from above the ears to the crown on each side. For professional looking results, clip ends and roll hair all over, once curls are set, just style and go!
