Things You'll Need:
- large pine cone
- string
- peanut butter
- knife
- bird seed
- newspaper
-
Step 1
Start by tying a strong piece of string or chord around the smaller end of the pine cone.
-
Step 2
Spread out newspaper on a table to keep workstation clean.
-
Step 3
Cover the entire pine cone with peanut butter. You do not have to have a very thick layer, but be sure to cover the pine cone thoroughly.
-
Step 4
Sprinkle bird seed over peanut butter coated pine cone. You can also spread bird seed onto the newspaper and roll the pine cone around on the bird seed. Be sure to get a good, generous coating of bird seed all over the pine cone.
-
Step 5
Hang pine cone by the string from tree limb and enjoy all the feathered neighbors that are soon attracted. As the peanut butter dries, it will turn harder and the birds will have to work a little to get the seeds free. This provides both food and enrichment.
