Here is an EASY recipe for authentic homemade sauce taught to me by my sicilian grandparents. It is loved by kids and adults alike(including my picky 2 year old). It is requested EVERY time I am asked to bring something somewhere!
I hope you love as much as my family and friends.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4-15ounce cans of tomato sauce(I like Hunts or Hunts organic-but any kind will work)
  • 1-15 ounce can of Italian style stewed or diced tomatoes
  • 1/8-1/4 cup of sugar (to taste)
  • 2 cloves of GRATED garlic or garlic powder
  • 1 TBSP of Italian seasoning (McCormick makes a good one)
  • 1 TBSP of Olive Oil
  • 1/4-1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  1. Step 1

Put all ingredients into your crock pot and cook for 6-8 hours on low
Or cook on low on stove top stirring VERY frequently for 2-3 hours.

  2. Step 2

If you like a meat sauce add 1 lb of ground sirloin browned and grease drained, into the crock pot.
If your family prefers meatballs (like mine) see my article on authentic sicilian meatballs, I can never make enough!

  3. Step 3

My grandma browned a pigs hock and put that in the sauce, giving it a sweet wonderful flavor, my mom preferred to brown a couple of pork chops and put them in the crock pot, instead of the pigs hock. I have done it both ways but my kids and husband still prefer meatballs.

Tips & Warnings
  • This really is easiest in the crock pot, however if you prefer making on the stove please stir often so the sauce doesn't burn on the bottom of the pan.
  • Enjoy!
