Do you need to give your dog medicine/pills? Here are a couple tricks to make the process a little easier for you and your dog.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • American Cheese
  • Peanut Butter
  • Greenies Pill Pockets
  • Dog's Pills
  • Baby spoon with a rubber cover.
  1. Step 1

If your dog likes cheese, slide the pill in-between two pieces of American cheese. Use only enough cheese to seal the pill in the cheese.

  2. Step 2

If your dog doesn't like cheese or gets tired of this method, take a butter knife to some peanut butter, smooth works the best and 'wrap' the pill in peanut butter. Once the pill is wrapped in the peanut butter, use your finger to put the glob in your dogs mouth, sometimes scraping it on their teeth.

  3. Step 3

You don't like using your finger, use a back of a spoon (a baby spoon with a rubber cover works the best) and put the peanut butter wrapped pill on it. Then let your dog lick it until they open their mouth wide enough to scrape the pill onto their teeth as you pull the spoon out of your pet's mouth.

  4. Step 4

Last trick, Greenies Pill Pockets work well. You don't have to use a whole pocket for a pill. Take some of the pocket and wrap the capsule around the pill. They have chicken favor, which my dog loved.

I was able to purchase this item at my vet's office.

Tips & Warnings
  • I had to give two of my dogs heart medicine twice a day for three years. At first I tried to hide the pills in their food. After a while my dogs stopped eating because they knew 'pills' where in their food. I would 'hide' the pills in hot dogs but they learned to eat around the hot dog. I mixed up these techniques and it seemed to work with them. Unfortunately, they both passed away due to heart failure.
  • If your dog bites, I would not put my fingers in their mouth. Use the spoon with peanut butter.
