Getting smooth legs can increase your confidence when you are wearing skirts or shorts. Some women are self-conscious about stubble, razor bur, and other conditions that mar the texture of the skin on their legs. A proper hair removal technique can help get your legs smooth while preventing irritation and bumps and reducing the risk of infection. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Shave your legs. Avoid reusing disposable razors and always clean and dry multi-use razors after using them. Start with a sharp razor. If you use a dull razor, you may have to shave the same area repeatedly. This can cause razor burn and bumps. For this reason, remember to clean your razor by running it under water between swipes. Shave your legs in the shower or after taking a hot shower or bath. The warm water will soften the hair, making it easier to cut, and open the pores, allowing the hair to be removed more easily. Use a rich shaving cream to avoid nicks and irritation. Shave against the direction of hair growth, moving from your foot up your leg.

Use a depilatory cream to dissolve hair. These work by weakening the hair so that it can easily be scraped off the skin. They require less effort than shaving because you simply slather the cream on, wait a few minutes and hop in the shower. However, these can cause chemical burns or irritation if left on too long, so read the instructions carefully before use. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on a small area of your leg first to make sure you don't have any reactions to the cream.

3
Get a leg wax. Waxing, though painful, can last several days longer than shaving. Waxing rips up hair right from the root, so it takes longer for the hair to regrow to noticeable levels. Going to a salon to get and maintain a wax can be expensive, so you may want to try a home waxing kit.

Moisturize your legs with a rich cream. No matter which method you use to remove the hair on your legs, there may be some trauma to delicate skin. Help your skin heal by applying a cream that contains soothing agents, such as aloe or eucalyptus oil, especially if you have sensitive skin. These soothing ingredients can help prevent unsightly irritation, such as redness or bumps. Additionally, moisturizing will keep your legs soft and smooth.

Consider getting laser hair removal. This works by damaging the hair follicle to the point that the hair doesn't grow back. It can be expensive and painful and takes an average of 4-6 sessions to complete, though changes in hair growth can usually be seen after the first session. This method works much longer than any of the others, and can last up to a year. Laser hair removal works best on those with dark hair and light skin, but don't be discouraged from getting a consultation if you don't fit this description, because there are always new techniques being developed.
