This article will help anyone that has dropped something down a sink they wish they had back. I have been paid to retrieve many items for people and it is a very easy task. I have been a plumber for over 10 years and can't tell you how many times this has happened. I hope this can save you some money in the future.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

DO NOT RUN ANY WATER AFTER YOU LOSE YOUR ITEM. Find a wrench or something that will fit the nut on the trap. The trap nut you will be working with will be the one that looks like a U bend.

  2. Step 2

Loosen both nuts that connect to the U bend section of the trap. Have a container handy that you can dump the contents of the trap into. Be careful you never know what you can find in the trap since everything that goes down the sink will go through that section.

  3. Step 3

Once you have it loose dump the trap into container and you should have a visual on the item lost. Just simply reattach the u bend snug up nuts and your back in business. I hope this helps you out for any lost items.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check for leaks after hooking trap back up.
  • Gloves would be a good thing you never know what your gonna find in a trap.

on 8/4/2009 This is great! I dropped a diamond necklace down the drain once and used this exact same procedure. Fortunately I have a dad who taught his daughter how to work their way around some "guy stuff". 5* I know this article will help a lot of people!!
