Leopard Geckos are mostly easy to hold. Except for young juveniles. They are full of baby energy and love to run and jump. In this article I am going to tell you how to hold young and old leopard geckos.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A leopard gecko. Doesn't matter what type
  • Hands
  • Fingers
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

The first step is to get your leopard gecko out of it's cage.

  2. Step 2

To get the leopard gecko out of the cage, insert your hand in front of the gecko. Make sure the back of your hand is laying flat on the bottom of the cage and with the other hand gently guide your gecko into the palm of your other hand.

  3. Step 3

If the gecko is wild gently calm him down by very lightly petting his/her back. Always allow your gecko to walk freely in your hands.

  4. Step 4

Continue to hold him, daily until your gecko is comfortable in your hands. And before you know it your gecko will love sitting on your hands and head if you wish.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are going to put your gecko on your head make sure it released fecal matter prior to this event
  • When placing hand in the gecko's cage, make sure it knows that you are there by petting it's back.
  • If you are going to put your gecko on your head make sure it is very calm.
  • When purchasing a gecko you would like to hold alot, make sure that it is calm the first time you hold it before you buy it, unless it is a baby because then it will need training like I have provided above.
  • Leopard geckos release fecal matter at night hours.
  • Leopard geckos are nocturnal so they will be more active at night.
  • When feeding leopard gecko, make sure it knows you are there before you pick it up by gently petting it's back.
  • Always wash hands before and after holding any reptile.
  • DON'T EVER AND I MEAN EVER GRAB THE GECKO'S TAIL BECAUSE IT WILL DROP IT VERY EASILY.
  • Never hold a reptile by it's jaws.
