How to Set up a Homework Area

on the road to success
on the road to success

A well organized homework area is important for the success of your child's education. It builds study skills and keeps the child focused. When used consistently, there will be no battle for homework time, it will just be expected.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • desk/table
  • pencils
  • paper
  • ruler
  • crayons
  • erasers
  • scissors
  1. Step 1

Find a quiet spot in your home. It could be in the child's bedroom or on the dining room table, but away from the TV.

  2. Step 2

Find a desk comfortable for your child. This can be a task that you can do together. A great place to find a desk would be a garage sale or thrift store.

  3. Step 3

Decorate and organize the desk with your child to create ownership and excitement. Find storage containers for pencils, scissors, crayons, paper, rulers and anything else needed. Supplies should be easily accessible and always placed in the same place. No time should be wasted looking for things.

  4. Step 4

Consistency is key. Homework should be done every day at their new desk, and at the same time. Then, there will be no battle to do homework, it will just be expected. Always keep the TV and background noise off to promote concentration.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have space for a desk in your house and need to use your dining table, make sure supplies needed are always stored in the same place and easily accessible.
