Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Buy the salmon. You can often find salmon in your grocer's freezer and sometimes you can also find it fresh. Unless you are going to cook it the day you buy it, it is best to buy it frozen. Frozen seafood is often frozen when it is very fresh, anyway.
-
Step 2
Prepare your cooking area. You will need some aluminum foil, a baking pan, a lemon, a few pats of butter, sea salt, pepper, and some dill seasoning, if you have it. Put a length of aluminum foil in the baking pan. Set your oven for 375 degrees.
-
Step 3
Defrost and rinse the salmon for cooking. When you are ready to eat the salmon, defrost it if it is frozen. You can defrost it by keeping it in the fridge over night, or by putting it, still in its packaging, in a bowl of warm water and run more hot water on it from the faucet. Once it is defrosted, take it out of its packaging. Rinse it under some cool water and place it in the aluminum foil in the baking pan. Some scales are usually left on salmon. Make sure you place the salmon scale side down.
-
Step 4
Season the salmon. Cut the lemon in half, first. If you have more than one filet, use the whole lemon. If you only have one, use half the lemon. Squeeze the lemon over the salmon to cover it in juice. Add pats of butter. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, and dill on the salmon and then place the squeezed lemon on top of the salmon. Bring the edges of the aluminum foil together and curl them tightly so very little moisture can escape.
-
Step 5
Place the salmon in the oven (in the pan), and cook for 10 to 20 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork. This method will help retain moisture in your salmon.
