After you have been stung by a bee you must clean the area and apply ice. But in addition you MUST remove the stinger. This will prevent infection. You do not need complicated equipment to remove the stinger, but a simple credit card or driver's license can do the trick. Read below!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Clean the area with soap and water or other antiseptic liquid.

  2. Step 2

    Take out a credit card and place the credit card with the edge near to where the stinger is located and quickly flip in one smooth motion across the stinger and up and out. This will magically remove the stinger with no trauma. You may have to perform this action a couple of times before successful.

  3. Step 3

    Clean the area again with soap and water or an antiseptic. Make sure the stinger is out.

  4. Step 4

    Apply ice and perform other care as indicated. For those who do not have bee sting allergies this is all you need to do!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are not successful in removing the stinger please check with your medical provider to remove it. You want to avoid infection.
  • For those individuals who have serious life threatening reactions to bee stings the initial reaction to a bee sting may be calling 911 or using EpiPen. This article is intended for those persons who do not have any life threatening reactions to bee stings and simply need to remove the stinger.
