Learn a fun card game for the whole family. This game helps teach matching and following rules.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A single deck of cards without the jokers
  1. Step 1

2-5 players can play this game with one deck of cards. Deal eight cards to each player. Turn one card up to start the discard pile and leave the rest of the cards face down for the draw pile. The play begins with the person to the left of the dealer.

  2. Step 2

Each player plays a card with the same suit or the same number as the top card in the discard pile. Each player plays only one card per turn.

  3. Step 3

A player may choose to play an eight on the discard pile and declare any suit they want. The eight acts like a wild card and may be played at any time.

  4. Step 4

If a player cannot play, then they must draw a card. If they can play the card drawn, then they play it on the discard pile. Decide ahead of time if a player draws until they can play or draws only one card. Kids might have an easier time with drawing only one card. If this option is chosen, then the play passes to the next player if the one card can't be played.

  5. Step 5

The first player to play all of his or her cards is the winner. Some people say uno when they are down to their last card as a courtesy to other players who might not know they are about to go out.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is possible to hold onto an eight until the end and choose to draw instead of play it. It's the player's choice.
