Step 1
The day before the night that you would like to have the dream, make it a point to remind yourself throughout the day that you would like to have a dream that is about the specific problem or situation in your life that you want to solve or know more about.

Step 2
Write the dream down. If you wake up in the middle of the night then write the dream down. Write it down even if you want to go back to sleep before you write it down. This will benefit you because you will remember more of the dream. You probably woke up because you had the dream that you asked for.

Step 3
When you have time to decipher the dream, then read the dream back to yourself, and remember the dream images the best that you can while you are reading it back.

Step 4
Break the dream into parts. Use places where the breaks seem natural. For instance, if your dream is full of your thoughts as you experience something, then break it up with one or two thoughts in a part. Or, if your dream is about your experience of something, then break the experience into small parts. i.e. I felt the earth under my feet with each step.

Step 5
Sit or lie down and close your eyes. Concentrate on the part of your body that is holding you up, like the chair, floor or bed. Ask your self to locate the part of your mind that helps you know the meaning of things. Ask that part to tell you that it is ready by giving you a memory of when you knew the meaning of something in the past. Locate the feeling in your body that goes with the memory. This is the part that will know and tell you the meaning of your dream.

Step 6
Read each of your parts of the dream one at a time and in order, and let the meaning part of you give you a word or two, or a phrase. Write the word, words or phrase down beside the part of the dream that they go with.

Step 7
After you have completed this, read all of the words and phrases to your self in the order that you wrote them down with the dream with the problem or situation that you ask for a dream about in mind. Close your eyes and ask the meaning part of yourself what the words and phrases have to do with your the solution to the problem or insight into the situation.

Step 8
Read the dream back to yourself along with the words and phrases that the meaning part gave to you and see if you can gain insight or actually solve the situation or problem in your life.
