How to Catch Whiting

So easy to catch with a few easy tips!

Whiting is a mild fish with a reputation as an easy catch. They aren't very big, and they have small mouths so tiny bits of bait will appeal to them. They tend to gather in sandbars between troughs. The bar is usually where the waves break and then reform. It's not a great place to swim, but it is where schools of whiting will stick around and hunt for food.

Things You'll Need

• Shrimp
• Whiting rig
• Fishing pole
• Pyramid sinker

Instructions

1. Pick an area of water no more than 4 feet deep.

2. Tie the swivel end of the whiting rig to a fishing line.

3. Attach the pyramid sinker to the other end of the rig. This end typically has a clip to which the weight is attached. The weight must be 1.2 to 2 oz. depending on the water conditions.

4. Attach a piece of unshelled shrimp to the line. The shrimp must be no bigger than the tip of your little finger.

5. Cast the bait out and reel in the slack. When you feel the bite, immediately set the hook with moderate pressure and reel in the fish.
