How to Remove Tasks From a Gantt Chart in Microsoft Project
Microsoft Office Project, also known as MSP, is a powerful project management tool. Microsoft Project is used to help project managers and schedulers develop project plans, assign resources to tasks, manage budgets, and analyze and distribute workloads. A Gantt chart is a graphical representation of a project schedule that you can generated easily using Microsoft Project. Deleting a task from a Gantt chart is convenient using Microsoft Project, as it will automatically restructure the Gantt chart and other elements of the project information when a task is deleted.

Start up Microsoft Project and load the desired project file.

Select "Gantt Chart" from the View menu.

Locate and select the task you wish to remove.

Click on "Unlink Tasks," as it is recommended that you remove all dependencies from a task prior to removing the task itself.

Verify that the dependencies that been removed from the task you are going to delete have been appropriately reassigned and rescheduled based on links to other tasks or constraints. Also note that all tasks have been renumbered.

Click "Delete Task" on the Edit menu.

Tips & Warnings
You can restore a task that was deleted by mistake by clicking "Undo Delete," but this will typically only work immediately after deleting the task.
If a summary task is deleted, all subtasks will also be deleted unless they are reassigned prior to deleting the summary task.
