Small businesses use Quickbooks more than any other financial software. Several versions of the program meet the needs of different kinds and sizes of businesses. Determining which version to buy is a matter of comparing the products and knowing your own business needs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine which version of Quickbooks would be best for your business. A variety of products serve the needs of divergent companies.

  2. Step 2

Consult the comparison chart of Quickbooks products at the Intuit website (see link in Resources). In a nutshell, Quickbooks Simple Start version or Quickbooks Pro version are best for small businesses. Quickbooks Premier version is best for medium-sized businesses, while Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions works for large businesses. One other option is Quickbooks Online Edition for those who want to work remotely and manage their finances online.

  3. Step 3

Meet with a Quickbooks Pro Advisor if you are still unsure which version of the program you need. You can find a Quickbooks Pro Advisor at proadvisor.intuit.com/referral/ (see link in Resources). He can also assist you in setting up and learning to operate the program. A fee may apply.

  4. Step 4

Purchase the appropriate software from Intuit, or another online retailer or auction site, or pick up a copy at your local office supply, discount or warehouse store (see Resources).
