Things You'll Need:
- iTunes
- iPod USB link cable

Step 1
Connect your iPod to your computer using your USB link cable. Simply plug one end of the cable into your iPod and the other end of the cable into an open USB port on your computer.

Open Apple's iTunes software. During installation, an icon was placed on your desktop. Simply double-click on it to open the program.

Allow iTunes a few moments to recognize your iPod. Once iTunes is opened, it will begin to search your computer for attached compatible devices. Once it locates your iPod, its name will appear on the left side of the main iTunes window under the "Devices" divider.

Click on the name of your iPod. This will bring up its general iTunes settings page.

Click on the "Restore" button located on your iPod's general settings page. When asked to confirm your decision, do so. This will reinstall the operating system software on your iPod and return the device to its original factory settings. This entire process will only take a few minutes. Performing this restore will fix any software-related issues you are having with your iPod OS.
